AAP Bright Futures

Bright Futures tools are now available in CHADIS

CHADIS presentation of the Bright Futures questionnaires and screening tools, the national standard for health supervision, assist healthcare professionals in ensuring they are following the recommendations presented in the Bright Futures Guidelines, 4th Edition when delivering care to patients and their families.

Questionnaires: The questionnaires are comprehensive of the items in Bright Futures that can be collected by parent or teen report.

  • There are specific age-related questionnaires for parents of 3-5 days, months 1, 2, 4, 6, 9,12,15, 18, and years 2, 2 ½, 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.

  • There are both child self-report and parent report for ages 11 and 15, and youth self-report at 18.

  • Categories assessed vary with age and include, for example: priorities; medical/interval history; social history; development; environment/SDoH; Insurance/social support; caring for infants; media, nutrition, safety, and sleep.

  • Respondents can complete the questionnaires in Spanish with results appearing for the clinician in English.

Results: Uniquely, answers are color-coded when viewed in CHADIS to signal the great need for clinician attention (red) and possible need for special attention (yellow) to aid in review.

Visit Notes: CHADIS writes your note using the Bright Futures results:

  • Final assembly in CHADIS groups responses in typical medical note categories allows comments and editing within CHADIS.

  • The note generated separates “No issues”; “Issues”; and ‘Possible issues” for each topic for easy review.

  • Notes can be copy-pasted into the EHR or attached as a PDF to assist with visit documentation.

Handouts: Bright Futures Handouts by Age-related topics are automatically sent to the CHADIS Care Portal or can be printed for the family or teen.

Screening tools: The Bright Futures recommended screens are available for auto-assignment in CHADIS for online pre-visit completion and are automatically scored and interpreted making them eligible for CPT code billing.
